Walter R Rooney, 88 of Littlestown died Sunday July 21 at the Gettysburg Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara Rooney who died Jan. 6, 2010. Born Feb 15, 1925 in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late George L and Alicia Rooney. Walter was a 1942 graduate of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in MD and American University. Walter served in the Army during WWII. He was in the battle of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He helped liberate Dakel Concentration Camp in Germany. Walter was a retired Captain of the Bethesda Fire Dapartment. He is survived by 3 daughters, Mary M. Rich of Olney, Beth A. Bohrer and husband James A. of Monson Maine and Katherine J. Rooney of Littlestown. Grandchildren Michael J. Fox, Angela M. Williams and Robert B. Rich and great grandchildren, Sydney C. Fox, Emily C. Williams, Kiersten DeGrange and Ava Claire Keadle. He was predeceased by a brother, Col. Thomas O Rooney. He was a member of the Littlestown American Legion and the Maryland State Guard. Funeral Services will be Wed., July 24 at 11 AM at Littles’ Funeral Home, 34 Maple Ave Littlestown PA. with the Rev Timothy J Kielley officiating. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior the service, 10-11 at the funeral home.
