Stewart N. "Lukie" Long, 88, of Littlestown, died Sat., Jan. 19, at Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Frances A. (Sneeringer) Long for 67 years. Born Oct 9, 1924 in Tyrone, MD, he was the son of the late Ellsworth & Anna H. (Snyder) Long. Lukie was a 1942 Littlestown High School graduate. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Nov. 17, 1942 in Philadelphia and was honorably discharged at Camp Perry, Williamsburg, VA Nov 11, 1945 with the rate of Gunner's Mate Second Class. While in the Navy, he participated in the invasions of Saipan,Tinian and Pelilu in the South Pacific and earned the following ribbons: American Theater of Operations, Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operation w/ 3 stars, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon and the World War Two Victory Medal. Lukie then began his accounting career employed with Wm V. Sneeringer & Sons, Frank Ruth, CPA; Musselman Corp., Maitland Brothers and retiring in 1986 from Miller, Brown & Assoc., CPA. He also worked for Little's Funeral Home for 20 years following his retirement. In addition to his wife, Lukie is survived by 2 daughters: Joan F. Miller & husband, Robert of Hanover; Diane M. Badolato & husband, Daniel of Myrtle Beach, SC; 2 sons: James S. Long & wife, Marianne, and Gary R. Long, all of Littlestown. 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Nancy J. Johnston of Lakewood, OH. Lukie was predeceased by 2 brothers: Joseph & Nelson Snyder. Lukie was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Littlestown where he was Choir director, past president of Parish Council, Lector and Cantor and was also involved in many parish committees. He was past president of Borough Council, Member of Sewer & Water Authority, Historical Society, A Justice of the Peace, Life Member of Alpha Fire Co. and ambulance driver; life member of Littlestown VFW, American Legion and Allied Veterans Council, Fish & Game, Cub Master for many years and a first aider for Girl Scouts for 10 years. Lukie was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed family camping. He was also a member of the National Square Dance Campers. Mass of Christian Burial is Thurs., Jan. 24, at 10 A.M. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Littlestown with Rev. James M. Sterner Celebrant. Viewings are Wed. 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P.M. with the Rosary at 8 P.M. at Little's Funeral Home, Littlestown. Interment is in the Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim & Gary Long, Robert Miller, Dan Badolato, Andrew Miller and Christopher Badolato. Full Military honors will be conducted by Littlestown Allied Veterans Council.
