Maynard L. “Whitey” Weikert, 86, of Hanover, died Thurs, Feb 26, at The Brethren Home. He was the widower of Patricia (Hicks) “Pat” Weikert who died Jan 7, 2013. Born July 21, 1928 in Hanover, Whitey was the son of the late Miles & Alice (Hawk) Weikert. He was a 1946 Eichelberger Senior High School graduate and attended Pierce School of Business of Philadelphia. Whitey enlisted and served in the U.S. army. He was co-owner of Trone and Weikert from 1959-89 and co-owner of Weikert-Little later in ‘89-‘97, both of Hanover. Surviving are a daughter, M. Leslie Weikert of Rockville, MD; two sons: Scott A. Weikert & wife, Kimberly, of Loganville and Mitchell P. Weikert, MD & wife, Patricia, of Houston, TX; 2 granddaughters: Katherine & Grace Weikert; a brother, Mark Weikert & wife, Jean, of Carlisle and a sister-in-law, Pat Weikert of Marlton, NJ. Whitey was predeceased by his twin brother, Millard Weikert. Whitey was a member of Trinity U.C.C. and the Elks, both of Hanover. He was former president and chairman of the board of the Hanover Jaycees; first president of the Greater Hanover Civic Corp.; former president of Hanover Recreation Board 1964-69; former chairman and member of the Downtown Hanover Merchants’ Assoc.; member and board member of the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce where he received Small Business Person of the Year in 1980; board member of Downtown Hanover, Inc. and Hanover School Board member 1977-83. Memorial Service is Sat, March 14, at 11 A.M. at Trinity U.C.C., Hanover with The Rev. Peg Grzelkowski officiating. Inurnment is in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover.
