Mary E. “Betty” Alexander, 97 of Pomeroy died Saturday May 23 at Utz Terrace Lutheran Retirement Village of Hanover. Mary was the widow of the late William D Craig and William Alexander. Born October 3, 1917 in Burgettstown, she was the daughter of the late Leman and Frances Davis Smiley. Mary was a high school graduate and a homemaker. She is survived by 2 sons, James R. Craig and wife Nila of Littlestown and William R. Craig and wife Rosalie of Burgettstown. Four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and ten great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson William R. Craig Jr, brothers Paul and Raemond Smiley and a sister, Dorothy Harper. Mary was a member of The Thorndale Methodist Church, the VFW Aux of Downingtown and Burgettstown. She loved being with family, participating in the Aux and her church, walking with friends and cooking and baking. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Grandview Cemetery, Florence, PA.
