On February 9, 2025, James K. Roche of Glen Rock, PA formerly of Baltimore, MD passed peacefully surrounded by his family.
Jim was one of seven brothers and sisters, growing up on Evergreen Ave in Hamilton. Jimmy and Wendy met at age 14, got married at 16 and had 2 daughters, Dawn and Crystal, at 17 only 11 months apart. They lived in the same house on Evergreen Ave in Hamilton, until they moved to PA in the early 2000’s. They were married for 51 years this past year.
Shortly after having the girls Jim got his GED and secured a job at 7-11. There he quickly moved to be the assistant manager at the 25th and Kirk Ave. location, to the store manager, and then to Field Consultant taking care of several stores in Baltimore City and surrounding area. He worked for them for 30 years and retired a year ago.
Jim LOVED his job with 7-11, but nothing made him happier than his family. Jim worked hard to make sure Wendy could stay home with Dawn and Crystal and to make sure they had everything they needed. Especially during Christmas, the living room would be filled with presents. Jim and his family would take trips to the Eastern Shore to visit family, day trips to Ocean City and get buckets of fried chicken and sit on the beach all day and then drive home that night. One of the last family trips his family took before Dawn and Crystal graduated from high school was to Skyline Drive. Jim loved sightseeing and fun facts about different states, not to mention the food. Jimmy loved his family; he could never say no to anything Dawn and Crystal asked for even if it caused a tiff between him and Wendy.
Before they decided to move to PA. Jimmy and Wendy took several trips to Niagara Falls, Canada, Arizona, Florida, Jamacia, and Punta Cana. There wasn’t much Jimmy would say no to Wendy about, including all the pets Wendy would take in, stray cats and the chickens, which he built a whole chicken yard for them. He loved doing yard work, vegetable gardens, cutting the grass (which sometimes he would spend hours on), fiddling around in the garage and taking short drives in his old truck. He also loved going to the markets and getting good deals.
Jimmy became a Grandpop with Andrew, they had good times together going to Steelers/Ravens games where they would park at 7-11, and shared some special memories, including the announcement of Jimmy becoming a Great Grandpop this July. After his grandson Tyler was born Jimmy became Pop-Pop and what a blessing that was, he brought so much love and joy to Jimmy’s life. When Tyler was younger, Jimmy enjoyed taking Tyler to play claw machines (and if they didn’t win Jimmy might tilt the machine over a little so something would fall out) also taking him to several basketball, baseball and football games. He loved watching Tyler play sports. Just like with Jimmy’s girls he could never so no to Tyler (especially with Play Station gift cards) Tyler would call Jimmy his BFF even on the day Jimmy passed. Jimmy was so proud and loved his grandsons so much.
Jimmy enjoyed watching the Three Stooges, The Little Rascals, Blondie and Dagwood, Seinfeld, old black and white movies, and loved his 70’s music. Jimmy was always smiling and always willing to help anyone, anyway he could. He was a good man, with many friends.
Jim leaves behind to celebrate his life, his wife Wendy, his 2 daughters Dawn Yingling and her husband Joe, Crystal Gibson and her husband Keith, his sister Joyce Ruby and grandchildren Andrew Yingling and wife Madison, & Tyler Gibson. Also survived by brothers-in-law Kenny Lookingbill and wife Cheryl and David Lookingbill, as well as several nieces and nephews. Also, his fur children cats Jack, Katie, Mia, and Zoey; 2 grand pups, Sandy and Comet and several chickens.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 9,2025 at the Bush River Yacht Club, 4001 East Baker Ave Abingdon, Md 21009, from 1-5pm. Please dress casually for the celebration.
