Christine Marie Long, 79, of Littlestown, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, February 15, 2025. She was the loving wife of Wilbur “Bill” Long, Littlestown; together they shared 56 ½ years of marriage.
Born October 22, 1945 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Holland Augustus and Joyce Lee (Coakley) Bost.
In addition to her husband, Chris is survived by her sons, Tom Long, Westminster, MD and Dave Long and wife Rosemary, Ellicott City, MD; grandchildren, Mackenzie and Sienna Long and sister Carol Elaine Parker and husband Charles, North Port, FL.
Christine Marie Long, a statement by her husband, Bill.
Loving wife, mother, grandmother. Partner in my life for over 56 years.
Chris was born in Washington, DC. She grew up in Camp Springs, MD.
Wanting to become a teacher, she enrolled at Towson State College in the Fall of 1963. I had the good fortune to meet her there. She graduated in 1967 and taught second grade the following year, in Prince George’s county, MD. The many children from that class who attended our wedding in June of 1968 were proof of their love for her, and hers for them.
After marriage we moved to Hanover, New Hampshire. Chris taught 4th grade in Lyme, NH, until we returned to Maryland in 1973. She served as the office manager for a firm in Westminster, MD until 1980, when our first son (Tom) was born. She retired at that point to become a full-time mother for Tom and for Dave, who was born in 1984. And what a mother she was! She loved and guided our children faithfully, and on the way became a prolific, dependable volunteer in schools and in our community.
Chris was a full-time, faithful, partner in my life. She supplied strength to me, to our children, to our community, and to all of our family. My own career’s success was possible thanks to Chris’s support, advice and stability.
The primary hallmark of her years on this earth was the unwavering love she gave to her family and mine, to our children, and to our granddaughters, Kenzie and Sienna. With a spark in her eye and love in her heart, she persisted through illness that gradually robbed her of mobility and physical strength. The pain in her body could not overmatch her devotion to me and to our family.
She fought hard to keep on, but a fourth round of cancer finally ended her time. Her last wish was to die at home, which she did early on the morning of February fifteenth of this year.
Speaking here for myself, for our family, and for the many friends who surrounded us, I say, “We love you Chris. You will live in our hearts forever.”
