Albert Dawson Schmitz, 90 years old, recently of Hanover, PA, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026


“Al” was preceded in death by his father, Albert Otto Schmitz, and his mother, Lela Belle Schmitz (nee Cobb), wife, Sandy Schmitz, (Harrison) and former wife, Patricia Schmitz (Gooding).  He is survived by his brother, George C Schmitz, and sister, Mary LoPresti, daughter Carol Schmitz-Corken(Tom), sons, Craig D Schmitz (Marcia) and Tracy A Schmitz(Wendi), Paul Burke (Virginia).  He is also survived by grandsons, Zachary Schmitz, Kevin Schmitz (Rachel), Michael Schmitz, Ryan Corken (Lindsay), Colin Burke, and granddaughters, Jennifer Corken Hall  (Christian), Katie Corken Sink (Mark), and Devon Burke, and great grandchildren, Dawson, Riley, Leah, and Annie.


Originally from Chicago, Al’s family moved to the Washington, DC area when he was a child and he lived in the Maryland suburbs until he retired. He was a beloved father, uncle, and grandfather.  He worked for Williams and Heintz Map Corporation for over forty years and was a valued employee and co-worker. Al also served in the Navy for two years. Al loved to travel, watch his beloved Redskins and Nationals, tell funny stories, and keep up on current events.  He will be greatly missed.


A celebration of life will be held at a later date and location to be announced.
