Albert R. May Obituary

Albert Raymond May, 79 of Gettysburg passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Transitions Healthcare, Gettysburg.

He was born in Westbrook, Maine on May 31,1945 to Leonard May & Laura (Caron) May.

After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army for 6 years.  After serving in the army, he worked for S D Warren for 20+ years as their security team. In between his jobs, he also was a volunteer fire fighter and assisted in EMT duties in Maine. He later worked for Steele Hill Resorts in Tilton, NH in the Maintenance Department.  After hurting his knee on the job and having a knee replacement, he retired. Once he moved to Pennsylvania, he worked for the Fairfield School District and then later for First Baptist Church of Gettysburg, both in janitorial.

Al enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved going to Beech Ridge Motor Speedway.  Al was a volunteer Fire Police for Fairfield Fire Co. He always loved his lobster, but once he moved to Pennsylvania, he would rather eat blue crabs with lots of old bay seasoning. Al was always happy to go flying when asked; he was sorry that he was never able to complete his pilot license.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Gettysburg where he enjoyed providing daycare during church service.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his son, Brian May; sister, Patricia Westcott and brother, Paul May.

Al is survived by Vicky May: daughter Tina Pike (Daniel), son, Timothy May; sister, Dolly Westcott and nieces Lori and Erica May. And his four grandchildren, Cameron Greer, Brian Greer, Zachary May and Eli May. He also loved his cats, Mr. Snickers, Sugar, Ryder, Sassy, Callie, Peanut and Shorty.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 10 am at Evergreen Cemetery, 725 Baltimore St., Gettysburg with Pastor Carl Harris officiating.  Military honors will be rendered by the Adams County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Al's memory to Adams County SPCA or Forever Love Rescue.
