Biography:
Ralph R. DeGroft, 89, of Littlestown, died Thursday, Sept 13, at his home. He was the husband of Fannie B. (Hill) DeGroft for 62 years. Born March 8, 1929 in Littlestown, Ralph was the son of the late LeRoy G. & Elsie B. (Schildt) DeGroft. He attended Littlestown High School and served in the army during the Korean Conflict. Ralph was a painter for 35 years with Emeco Industries, Hanover, retiring in 1994.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his 3 sons: Gerald L. Degroft & Lori of Abbottstown, Alan R. DeGroft of Gettysburg, Brian K. DeGroft & Patti of New Oxford; his 2 daughters: Karen A. Sheaffer & Douglas of East Berlin, Linda C. Hoffman & Jeffrey of York; his 6 grandchildren: Jessica, Jamison, Amy, Katlyn, Kyle and Luke; his 3 step grandchildren: Stephanie, Nicole, Wesley; his 2 great grandchildren: Harper and Kellan and his 2 step great grandchildren: Ella and Tyce. Ralph was predeceased by his sisters: Elsie Riebling and Charlotte Rhoads and his brother, LeRoy R. DeGroft. Ralph was a hard worker. He loved the outdoors, small engine repair and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral Service is Tuesday, Sept 18, at 11 A.M. at Little’s Funeral Home, Littlestown with Chaplain Jennifer Murphy of Hanover VNA officiating. Viewing is Monday 6 – 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment is in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown, with military honors conducted by Littlestown Allied Veterans Council. Memorials in Ralph’s name may be sent to VNA Hospice – 440 N. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. Sadly, such losses are something we have to deal with … for now. When it occurs, we all look for a source of comfort as we grieve, help to ease the pain, the sense of emptiness. May you find comfort in these inspired words of Isaiah, “Your dead will live. … the earth will let those powerless in death come to life.” (Isa.26:19) God has promised us that millions of the dead are alive in His memory and He shows us in His Word how we can hope to see them again in the future in a cleansed earth.
