Biography:
Anna E. Gilbert, 95, formerly of Littlestown, died Fri, July 22, at Genesis Gettysburg Center. She was the widow of Orville H. Newman who died in 1959 and L. Richard Gilbert who died in 1995. Born April 8, 1921 in Mt. Joy Twp, Adams Cnty, Anna was the daughter of the late Mervin D. & Katie (Breighner) Weikert. She was a 1939 Gettysburg High School graduate and was a homemaker, but was also employed with Gettysburg National Bank for a short time.
Surviving are her son, Jon O. Newman & wife, Linda, of Littlestown; her granddaughter, Jamie Newman Weaver & husband, Bud, of Forest Hill, MD; her 3 great grandchildren: Matthew, Kyleigh & Logan Weaver and her brother, Mervin Weikert, Jr. & wife, Helen, of Biglerville. Anna was predeceased by her 2 brothers: Ralph and Allen Weikert. Anna was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Two Taverns. She was collector of green depression glass and enjoyed sewing and knitting. Anna was an excellent cook.
Memorial Service is Friday, July 29, at 11 A.M. at Little’s Funeral Home, Littlestown with Sister Debra McClellan. There is no viewing; however the family with receive friends Friday 10 – 11 A.M. at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown. To Jon and family. Sorry to hear about the loss of your Mother.I remember her as a very wonderful lady. I worked as a teenager in 1953-54 for your Father and Mr. Irvin Conover on their farms. Gene Boyd, Fawn Grove, Pa.
