Biography: John Samuel Everett Mort, 91, of Hanover, passed away Monday, October 25th at Homewood at Plum Creek.

Born June 4, 1930 in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Ralph E. Mort and Ethel R. Clingan Mort. He was predeceased, after 50 years of marriage, by Elizabeth Utz Mort, the mother of his children, and his second wife of 10 years, Shirley Buffington Mort.

John was a Master Electrician and a 50 year member of I.B.E.W. Local 229. He was a 33rd Degree Mason with Patmos Lodge 348 F. & A.M., and a member of Shriners Zembo Temple Harrisburg, PA. He was a former member of Alpha Fire Company and a lifetime member of Cumberland Valley Firemen's Association. John was also a past member of Hanover Lodge B.P.O. Elks 763 and Gettysburg Moose Lodge 1526.

Mr. Mort was a member of Piney Creek Church of the Brethren, Taneytown, MD.

He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Waltz and husband Lew of Hanover and Diane Holloway and husband Scott of North Carolina; two grandchildren, Christi Poland and Jason Waltz and wife, Angie; three great-grandchildren, Calin, Lillian, and Quinn; one sister, Jean Mort of California.

Also predeceasing John are a son, James Mort; two brothers, Kenneth Mort and Robert Mort; and a sister, Regina Mort Foreman.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the entire staff of Homewood for their wonderful, compassionate care of John.

Memorial contributions may be made to Piney Creek Church of the Brethren, c/o Jan Meier, 4027 North Stone Road, Taneytown, MD 21787 or The Benevolent Care Fund of Homewood at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Ave, Hanover, PA 17331.

A viewing will be held Friday, October 29th, 2021 at Little's Funeral Home, Littlestown, PA from 10am to 11am. Funeral Service and Burial will be private.

Debbie & Family,
We were so saddened to hear of your Dad's passing, When Dad was still living at Homewood, Mom & myself really enjoyed visiting him. I always looked for him in the chair pass the ice cream parlor and he was there, You really had nice parents and I will never along with Mom forget them, Keeping you in our prayers. LaReina Fream

I was so sorry to read about John. I always enjoyed talking with him at his dentist appointments… he was a sweet soul who lived you all greatly. May he Rest In Peace! Former dental hygienist with Dr K and Hoffman

So sorry Deb snd family and Diane and family ! Dad will miss John greatly ! He wanted to come to the viewing but it is so hard for him to get around. He sends his condolences too ! Wish I could have seen you all! God bless!
